Caridon Landlord Solutions – COVID-19 Update
Caridon Landlord Solutions has been monitoring the guidelines on the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak very closely over the past few weeks. We are trying to minimise any disruption and maintain the essential service that we offer but our priority is to protect the health and safety of our staff and customers, therefore all our offices are currently closed.
However, our IT systems have allowed us to quickly adapt from office-based work to remote working with no interruption in service. Therefore, our advisers are available and can be contacted by telephone or email.
Supporting landlords with tenants claiming Universal Credit
As a service which provides advice to private landlords, letting agencies and housing associations on Universal Credit and Housing Benefit, we are all too aware of the increasing financal pressure that landlords and tenants are under as a result of COVID-19.
Last week, The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) reported that almost 500,000 people in the UK had applied for Universal Credit in just nine days. This means that thousands more landlords, who have no prior experience of the welfare system, will suddenly find themselves with tenants who are having to claim Universal Credit.
We are here to offer support, advice and assistance to landlords who want to understand Universal Credit. We will show you how you can help your tenants to claim the right anount, which will ensure they can cover their rent and, where necessary, help you to apply for an APA (an Alternative Payment Arrangement is where the housing element of Universal Credit is paid directly to the landlord instead of the tenant). We can also assist with setting up Third Party Deductions to cover rent arrears.
